ZOOM House serves a diverse population with various barriers to gaining long-term stability for their families. Our 22-unit apartment building houses ten families coming from homeless shelters into our transitional supportive housing program (SHP), six low-income families in housing (MARIF), and six families or individuals in affordable efficiency apartments.
Supportive Housing Program (SHP):
Families currently residing in a Hennepin County shelter may qualify for the ZOOM House Supportive Housing Program with Simpson Housing Services. Families in this two-year program receive social service case management from a full-time Family Advocate and rent is subsidized. Families qualify for the program by referral only through the Hennepin County shelter system.
One bedroom apartments (MARIF):
Six one bedroom apartments are available which include a program that allows residents to pay rent equal to 30% of their monthly adjusted gross income, or $350, whichever is greater. To qualify, residents must either currently receive MFIP or have successfully completed the program within the last two years. .
Six apartments are also available for rent at $500/month. These units are to bear rents that do not exceed 30 percent of the adjusted income of a family whose gross income equals 50 percent of the Median Family Income (the “Very Low Income Units”)
All residents must meet the selection criteria for the building. A rental, credit, employment and criminal background check is done on each applicant. The written criteria will be given with the application package. The building is “smoke-free” including the apartments. Residents will need to sign a lease agreement in which you or your guests agree not to smoke in the building or apartments.
